Great Big Iceberg is an ongoing collection of visual albums detailing the lives and work of contemporary artists, musicians, and writers.

The pages of Great Big Iceberg offer a glimpse into the lives of creative individuals. These compelling and eclectic makers have untold stories, personal histories, artifacts, influences, and secret projects. We will collaborate with a few select artists per year to dig up, collect, and share this stuff with you.

We call Great Big Iceberg publications "albums" as opposed to "issues" because we think of them more like intimate, collaged books than issues of a magazine. Each album is presented in the voice of the artist, and will consist of four parts spanning the artist's creative output, sources of inspiration, and home life.

Because the density of pure ice is about 920 kg/m, and that of sea water about 1025 kg/m, typically only one-tenth of the volume of an iceberg is above water. The shape of the underwater portion can be difficult to judge by looking at the portion above the surface.

Great Big Iceberg is a collaboration between Marissa Long and Victor Alejándro Aguilar.

Marissa is the creator and editor of GBI. She works directly with the artists to curate each album, documenting their practice through interviews and photography. She is an artist herself, living in Arlington, VA.

Victor is a designer living and working in Washington, DC. He is responsible for all GBI design and development and is co-founder of the Wilderness Bureau, a multi-format creative studio.
